We would stay here again as it appears to be the best place for touring Hannibal. Try the winery and cave onsite. Take the drive to Lover's Leap and through the historic downtown. Campground convenient to Hannibal. Gravel roads and sites. Roads are full of potholes. Rained while we were there. Tried to wash the mud off our tow after we left and it was like concrete. Don't know what was on the gravel road, but it was a mess. Roads poorly maintained, gravel sites OK, grass not cut recently.
Fair number of tent campers on the weekend including a scout troop. Mark Twain Cave at the site. OK but I thought expensive for what you got to see. I think that this operation is a cash cow that the owners are not putting much money back into the campground.
Bathrooms were old, but OK. They seem to clean them in the prime shower time in the morning though. Not a bad place to camp, but certainly not luxurious. Nearby Hannibal is a cute little town. Don't bother taking the riverboat tour. Goes only a short distance on the river and there really are no sites of significance to see from the river.
Twain house and museum are interesting. River towns can be nasty but Hannibal is quite nice. The downtown and nearby neighborhoods provide about years of architectural history. Riverboat ride is worthwhile. Local restaurants are affordable. Walmart, fast food, and chain restaurants are a drive north of the old town.
All in all a very nice balance of touristy and historic. Mark Twain Cave, Winery, and restaurant are on premises. Tour trolley also makes a stop here - either for the tour or as a shuttle to town. Food was good and the band sweet One didn't even have to close one's eyes to "slip back in time" and understand why riverboats were once the transportation method of choice for those with the funds to do it.
Speed limit in Hannibal is enforced. Police wait for you to come rolling down the hill into town a little too fast. Plenty of RV parking available along the riverfront. Try The Brick Oven restaurant on Center street.
It is not banked very well so be careful when pulling in. It appears that it has the capability of not being safe. Mark Twain Cave is on the pricey side for what it is, but worth it at least once! Get the massive pork loin sandwich at the cafe Great club sandwich at Becky Thatcher Diner.
Toy train museum is a great bargain. Interesting old cemetery between the park and town. Spend one day and go see Quincy, IL. Stop by the visitor center and get the auto tour map and drive around and look at all of the very old, well maintained, houses.
You won't be disappointed. Hannibal was a little disappointing because it looked rundown. The majority of the old houses need to be restored, they are neglected and are falling apart. Take the steamboat ride, check out the museum, do the cave tour and if you like wine, hit their winery. There is a super Walmart in town. Recommend "FiddleSticks" for Dinner. Highly recommend the Haunted Hannibal tour, they really know there stuff, and they have written a book about it. Ride the trolly bus came to the park very informative and got to see lots of stuff that we went back to see later.
Riverview Cemetery, also Lovers Leap great view a we like both my favorite view was cemetery. Go up 5th street if you like old big houses it was called the million dollar blocks.
If you watched M. Nobody knows how that happened. The fun but overpriced Sawyer's Creek Family Fun Park is within walking distance from the campground. Hannibal is a delight! It was Samuel L. Clemons' aka Mark Twain home until he was 18 years old so the city makes the most of that. Close to all attractions in Hannibal. Go see Louisiana Mo. If you like old homes and old buildings and touring, this is a great place. While here drive over to Quincy Ill. The homes and buildings in this town are awesome.
Very picturesque drive along old river road. Access to marketing tools, ability respond to reviews and monitor performance as well as expanded listings. Essential Marketing resources, page insights, daily reports, setup and manage notifications of newly posted reviews. Browse day trips from Philadelphia.
